

Wharton, Clarence C. : Clarence C. Wharton, 83, of Elba, died Monday at 1 p.m. in Marietta Memorial Hospital. Mr. Wharton had been engaged for a number of year in the oil and gas business and was an active member of several Masonic organizations. A member of Aurelius Lodge No. 308, F. & AM at Macksburg, he was also a member of the Scottish Rite Club of Columbus, Aladdin Temple, AAONMS of Columbus, the Marietta Shrine Club and the Elba Methodist Church. Born Mar 14, 1872, in Elba, he was the son of the late James and Amanda Smith Wharton, On Nov 27, 1900, he was married to the former Mary Elizabeth Williams, who died Jan 23, 1940. Survivors include four sons, Robert and Clarence of Burgettstown, PA., James of El Centro, CA., and William of Marietta; four daughters, Mrs. Homer Carver and Mrs. Richard Steadman of Marietta, Mrs. Raymond McKee of Coshocton and Mrs. Dale Heskett of Bedford; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles and one sister, Mrs. J. C. McKendrey. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Elba Methodist Church with the Rev. Mr. Ollinger officiating. Burial will be in Salem Twp. Cemetery. The body will be taken to the family home in Elba Wednesday morning from the Doudna & McClure Funeral Home. Whitaker, George F. : George F. Whitaker, a farmer for 37 years on Cambridge Rt. 2, died Saturday morning at 5 o'clock at his home. He had been ill with coronary thrombosis for several weeks. The deceased was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and the Uniondale grange. Born in the Birmingham community April 1, 1871, the son of William and Margaret Rourke Whitaker. Surviving are his widow, Elizabeth Roe Whitaker, two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Hawes, New Concord and Mrs. Frances Turner, Akron and four grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Frank Smith of North Sixth Street. A foster son Russell Bunting, resides in Weirton, WV. The body was removed from the Bundy Funeral Home to the family residence, Sunday afternoon and funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the late residence. White, Billy T. : Billy T. White, 76, of McConnelsville, died at 8:10 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 1998 at Good Samaritan Medical Center. Born Aug 12, 1921, in Morgan Twp., Morgan County, he was a lifelong Morgan County resident. He was a graduate of the M & M High School, Class of 1939, a member and treasurer of the McKendree United Methodist Church and a 59 year member of the Neelyville Grange, He was a member of the Morgan County Historical Society and the American Legion Post No. 24. Mr. White was the former president of the First National Bank of McConnelsville, where he worked for 47 years. He served the community as a commissioner of the Metropolitan Housing Authority for five years, treasurer of the Morgan County Chapter of the American Cancer Society for 25 years and 27 years as the Morgan Twp. Clerk. He also served in the Signal Corps of the U.S. Army, where he spent 39 months in the Philippines and Japan. "Whizzer", he was called by his high school teammates and fans, was voted captain of the MVL All League basketball team. His 1938-89 M & M Big Reds were the undefeated league champions. His sports participation continued with the Miller Morticians fast pitch softball team, semi-professional baseball teams and with the McKendree church softball team. He pitched and swatted singles until he was 6o. An avid sports fan he could often be seen cheering for local junior high teams the Morgan Raiders the OSU Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds. He served as the M & M Athletic Boosters president in 1965 when the Big Reds football team went undefeated. Survivors included his wife of 53 years, Sarah Morrow White; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas V. and Linda White of Columbus and Harry A. and Linda White of Huntington WV., a granddaughter, Courtney Renee White of Huntington; and a stepsister, Elizabeth Baird of Salesville. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry White and Sarah Tavenner White Bendure; and his stepfather Lacey Bendure. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday March 17, 1998 at the Miller-Huck Funeral Home in McConnelsville. Calling hours will also be one hour prior to services at the church. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 1998 at McKendree United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Vensel officiating. Burial will be in McConnelsville Cemetery, where military services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to the McKendree United Methodist Church or to the American Heart Association. White, Margaret Connell : Margaret Connell White, 87, died Thursday Nov 12, 1998, at Pataskala Oaks Care Center, formerly of Whitehall for over 30 years. Born in Rose Farm , OH., July 4, 1911. Graduate of McCluney High School and Bliss College. Retired Lazarus associate for 35 years. Attended Whitehall United Methodist Church. Loved to read and recite poetry. Preceded in death by parents James and Jeanie (Mitchell) White, brother Jim, niece Ruth Esther Kirk. Survived by brother, John (Ruth) White of Whitehall; nephew, John Paul White of Dublin; longtime friends and caregivers, Phyllis and Wilmer Bryan of Pataskala. White, Newell: Newell (Slim) White, 86, 193 Bethesda St.
Barnesville, died Friday April 7, 1995 at home. He was born June 27, 1908 at
Warnock, son of the late William and Laura B. Piper White. He was a retired
employee of Ohio Valley Paving Co., a retired farmer and livestock dealer, and a
member of Lloydsville United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by four
brothers, Berne, Robert, John and Charles; and one sister Ruth Carroll.
Surviving are his wife, Frances Higginbotham White; two brothers, Woodrow of
Deersville and James of Tippecanoe; several nieces and nephews. Services were
held Tuesday at Kelly-Kemp Funeral Home, Bethesda, with Rev. Craig McMillan
officiating. Burial was made in Richland Cemetery, East Richland.

Whittington, Mrs. Mackie : Mrs. Mackie McVay Whittington, 71d, widow of the late J. T. Whittington, formerly of Noble County and the Oak Grove neighborhood, passed away at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. DeVol at Oak Grove, west of the Muskingum River, Wednesday morning at 2:10. Death followed a decline in health. She came to Washington County in May from Guilford College, NC., with the body of her husband, who died there last December. Since going to Washington County, she was at the home of her brother, Neal McVay at Rinard's Mill until 10 days ago when she went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. DeVol on a visit. Mrs. Margaret Snyder of near Summerfield a sister-in-law of Mrs. Whittington and her granddaughter, Mrs. R. C. Hartan of Bethesda attended the funeral services which were held Friday afternoon at the Doudna and McClure Funeral parlors in Marietta. Interment was made in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Wickham, Eugene: Eugene (Wick) Wickham, 57, of 1028 Lincoln Avenue, Steubenville. formerly of Belmont and Bethesda, died January 3rd in Ohio Valley Hospital, Steubenville. Mr. Wickham retired 15 years ago from Wheeling Steel Corp., due to ill heath. He was a member of Finley Methodist Church. Mr. Wickham leaves his wife, Mrs. Mildred Tolbert Wickham; two sons, Tech. Sgt. Donald Eugene Wickham, serving with the Air Force in Germany, and Clarence (Bud) Wickham of Wintersville; three daughters, Mrs. James (Gladys) McKinney of Weirton, WV, Mrs. Richard (Anna Mae) Raihall of Mill Valley CA., Mrs. Jack (Judy) Jarrett of Wintersville; tow sisters, Mrs. Gladys Moore of Barnesville and Mrs. Frank (Margaret) Smith of Steubenville; and 13 grandchildren. Services were conducted from Cole Brothers Funeral Home, Monday at 1:00 p.m. by Rev. Mr. Ray Snyder. Interment was made in Fort Steuben Burial Estates.
Wickham, Mrs. Hazel : Funeral services for Mrs. Hazel Wickham, 35, of near Philo, who died Tuesday morning at Bethesda Hospital will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon at the Duncan Falls Methodist Church with Rev. S. M. Firestone officiating. Burial will be in the Duncan Falls Cemetery. Mrs. Wickham was a native of near Duncan Falls. Surviving are her husband, Guy; four children, Nellie, Marlene, Pearley and Andrew, all of the home; two grandchildren and three brothers, Elmer Harper of near Chandlersville, and Curtis Harper of Rix Mills. Wild, Frank : Funeral services for Frank Wild, 50, of Adair Ave., who died Wednesday morning at his home following several months illness, will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the pilgrim Evangelical Church. Rev. John H. Hose will officiate and burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Mr. Wild was a veteran employee of the American Rolling Mills Co., and was a member of the Armco 25 year Club. Wilkie, Mrs. August : Mrs. August Wilkie, of 15 East Boston Ave., Youngstown, died Tuesday morning at a Youngstown hospital, friends here have been informed. Mrs. Wilkie was formerly a resident of this city. She was a native of Shawnee, and while living here was a member of the Grace Methodist Church and of the Ludy Bible Class. Wilkins, Mrs. Wilda : Mrs. Wilda Odessa Wilkins, 51, wife of Charles, an employee of the Cambridge service department, died suddenly, Wednesday at about 7:15 a.m. at the home, South Eighth Street following a heart attack. She was stricken after her husband had left for his work and was found dead by a neighbor. Mrs. Wilkins was born in Miltonsburg, Monroe County, a daughter of George and Maggie Bowersock and had been a resident of Cambridge the past 35 years. In 1918 she was married to Charles Wilkins. In addition to her husband she is survived by two sons, Thomas, U. S. Marine Corps, Oceanside, CA., and Herbert of the home; one brother Clarence of Steubenville and a half-brother Bernard Lucas of South America. One brother and one sister are deceased. Wilkinson, William Afton: William Afton Wilkinson, 82, of Putney Ridge Road, Quaker City, died Thurs., Dec 23, 1999 at Barnesville Hospital He was born July 28, 1917 in Cleveland, TN., the son of the late William and Lavina Showalter Wilkinson. He worked for 40 years as a semi-truck driver for Commercial Motor Freight of Akron, a graduate of Kenmore High School near Akron, a member of the Teamsters and a U. S. Army veteran. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five sisters and four brothers. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Mildred Hercules Wilkinson whom he married Nov 4, 1940; five sons Jerry of Middlebourne, WV., William and Jackie of Quaker City, Tom and Marilyn of Dundee, Ronnie and Valerie of Canal Fulton and Bob of Akron; two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Marilyn) Faust of Clinton and Jody Starling of Marshallville; two brothers, Woodrow Wilkinson of Wadsworth and Orley Wilkinson on Norton; 19 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Williams, Sgt. Glenn Richard : Services for Sgt. Glenn Richard Williams, 29, of Green St., who died Nov. 12 in a military transport airplane crash in Cairo, Egypt, are planned at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Harrison Funeral Home. A native of Dayton, he served as loadmaster for a C-141 cargo transport plane. A 12 year veteran, he was stationed at McChord Air Force Base, Tacoma, WA. A graduate of Wheelersburg High School in 1969, he was a member of Wheelersburg United Methodist Church. Surviving are his parents, Glenn Ellis and Mary Ann Moore Williams, of Green St.; two brothers, Bruce Randall of Harrogate, England and Scott Alan, at home, and his grandparents, Mrs. Freda Moore, and Mrs. Wilsie Williams of Waynesville. Rev. William Turner is to officiate at services, with interment in Memorial Burial Park. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Air Force Ceremonial Team from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 10 p.m. Tuesday, and from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour Wednesday.

Wineman, Fred: Fred (Hope) Wineman, 89, Bolivar, formerly of Bethesda, died Tuesday in Massillon City Hospital. He was born April 12, 1901 at Bethesda, a son of the late Elmer and Clara Bishop Wineman. He was a retired carpenter and a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Anderson Wineman. Surviving are a daughter, Betty Klink of Bolivar; a son, Clarence of Massillon; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
