

Skews Thomas: Thomas W. Skews, 60, died suddenly of heart disease at his home in Philadelphia, PA., on March 8, 2005. He was the son of Virginia Hannan of Bellaire and loving brother of Suzanne (James) Klatt of Michigan. He was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and the Ohio Valley Hospital Med. Tech Program. He served his country in the US Air Force. He supervised a large NYC hospital lab for many years. The past 20 years wee spent building and running a successful visual arts and display business, servicing nationally known retail companies. A private ceremony was held in Philadelphia.
Skinner, Betty Jane: Betty Jane Skinner, twenty month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Skinner, died Thursday at 2:30 a.m., at their home at East Fair Street of and intestinal malady. The parents, two brothers Joseph 7, and Phillip 11 years old; two half-sisters, Misses Mary and Margaret Richardson at home and three brothers, George, Eugene and Benjamin, New Philadelphia, survive. Skinner Elmer: Elmer Skinner, 69, of Milltown, Newport Rt. 1, died on arrival at Marietta Memorial Hospital at 6 p.m. yesterday. He was born January 31, 1901, at Shay, a son of the late James and Sarah Martin Skinner. He married Garnet Bayless, who died January 1, 1970. Two son and seven daughters survive, James Skinner of Newport; Pvt John Skinner with the U.S. Army at Fort Hood TX.; Mrs. Ed (Hildreth) Thompson, Mrs. John (Violet) Bleakley and Mrs. Lewis (Louise) Owens of Salem; Mrs. Larry (Gertrude) Hackathorn of Hobart IN.; Mrs. Ralph (Phyllis) Streight of Portage, IN.; Mrs. Norman (Merna) Berga of Vermillion and Mrs. Delores Scott of Lorain. One son, Larry and one daughter Mary Elizabeth, are deceased. There are 31 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bessie Tice of Newport Rt. 1 is a sister. Skinner, Mrs. Elmer: Mrs. Garnet Skinner, 63, of Milltown, Newport Rt. 1, died at 4:50 p.m. yesterday in Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born January 8, 1906, at Milltown, a daughter of the late George and Viola Dearth Bayless. She was married to Elmer Skinner who survives with two sons and seven daughters; James Skinner of Newport; Pvt. John Skinner, U.S. Army, Fort Hood TX.; Mrs. Ed( Hildreth) Thompson, Mrs. John (Violet) Bleakley and Mrs. Louis (Louise) Owens of Salem; Mrs. Larry (Gertrude) Hashman of Hobart, IN; Mrs. Ralph Streight of Portage IN.; Mrs. Norman (Merna) Berga of Vermillion and Mrs. Delores Scott of Lorain. There are 31 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One sister Mrs. Lillian Houser of Williamstown and a number of half-brothers and half-sisters survive. A son, Larry, a daughter, Mary Elizabeth, and a brother, Howard Bayless, are deceased. Mrs. Skinner had spent most of her life in the Milltown community. She was a member of Newport Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Newport Baptist Church. Burial will be in Newport Cemetery. Skinner, Evagene H. : Evagene "Nan" Skinner, 87, of Belmont, died Friday, May 27, 2005, at her granddaughter's home. She was born July 15, 1917, in Bethesda, a daughter of the late Oscar T. Hatcher and Celia Gill Hatcher. Evagene was a member of the Belmont United Methodist Church, worked many years at the Grove Restaurant of Morristown and was active in the Belmont Garden Club.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe F. Skinner; a brother, Edsel Hatcher; and two sisters, Peg Simonson and Shirley Roby. Surviving are five grandchildren, Tiffaney Yeager of Jacobsburg, David Joe Skinner of Belpre, Ohio, Cheryl Jane Skinner of Belmont, Lisa Jean Ritchey of Zanesville and Tina Marie Daniel of Huber Heights, Ohio; and eight great- grandchildren. She was a special Nana to many. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family, with burial in Belmont Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Valley Hospice, 98 E. Skinner, Mrs. F: Mrs. Frank (Fannie) Skinner, 87, 129 Front Ave SE, this city died at 11:15 last night at the Maxwell Nursing Home following a long illness. Born October 29, 1876 in Kansas, she was a daughter of the late Martin and Mary Rithey Close. She had resided here for 60 years and was member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Her first husband, Eugene Richardson, died many years ago and her second husband, Frank Skinner, survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Cartwright of Jackson, MI., and Mrs. Mary Nelson of Akron; four sons, George Richardson of Dover, Phillip Skinner of Morristown, Joseph Skinner of Belmont, and Donald Skinner of this city; six grandsons and five granddaughters. Arrangements for services, in Charge of the Evans Funeral Home, are incomplete.
Skinner, Frank E : Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. In Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home for Frank E. Skinner, 81, of RD 3, a New Philadelphia resident since 1903 and a local trucker. He died Saturday night in Union Hospital following a year's illness. Rev. Lawrence Anslow will officiate and burial will be in East Avenue Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Born in Marietta, he was a son of the late George and Mary Bowersock Skinner. He was a member of the United Brethren Church. Surviving are 3 sons, Donald of New Philadelphia, Phillip of Morristown and Joseph of Belmont; a brother and 2 sisters John and Mrs. Annie Hodkins of Marietta and Mrs. Ethel Richardson of Barberton; a stepsister, Mrs. Martha Mays of East Liverpool; 19 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. His wife, the former Fannie Close, died in 1963.
Skinner George: George W. Skinner 61, well known farmer of Yankeeburg, died on Friday morning, October 4, 1918, at 11 o'clock. Death followed a lingering illness with Bright's disease. The deceased was born April 18, 1857. On Jan 30, 1879, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Elizabeth Bowerstock, of Lawrence Township. To them were born ten children; eight of whom survive, two dying in infancy. The children who survive with the widow are: Mrs. Kent Adams, of San Hill; Mrs. Laura Cornell, of Ashtabula; Frank of New Philadelphia; Ethel, Margaret, John and Edward at home. He is also survived by three sisters; Mrs. Maria Ecker, Mrs. Docia Hamilton, Mrs. Amanda Binegar and by two brothers, James and Charles, all of Pine Ridge.
Skinner Herbert: Herbert Skinner, 65, died Thursday at 4am at his home in East Norwood. He was born at Schley, OH Oct 29, 1896, a son of the late James and Sarah Martin Skinner. On Oct 4, 1916, he married Della Burton, who survives with two sons and four daughters, Ronald Skinner of Marietta; Harold Skinner and Mrs. Beatrice Becker of Marietta Rt.6 Mrs. Eloise Lane of Canton, Mrs. Bessie Poole of Reno, and Mrs. Gaynelle Dye of Marietta, one daughter Mary Alice, is deceased. There are 19 grandchildren and one great grandchild. One brother and one sister survive. Elmer Skinner and Mrs. Bessie Tice of Newport. Mr. Skinner had been employed at Remington-Rand as and assembler. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2:30 pm, at the Doudna & McClure Funeral Home. Burial will be in Valley Cemetery. Skinner James: James Skinner, 83, a retired farmer of near Newport, died Tuesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bessie Tice, at Milltown near Newport. Mr. Skinner was born August 12, 1870 in Independence Twp., a son of the late John and Lucinda Francis Skinner. Fifty-eight years ago he was married to Sarah Martin who died about eight year ago. He is survived by two sons, Herbert Skinner of Marietta and Elmer Skinner of Milltown; one daughter, Mrs. Bessie Tice; 22 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2:30 pm at the Newport Baptist Church of which he was a member. The Rev. John Bradbury will officiate. Burial will be in Newport Cemetery. Skinner Mary Elizabeth: Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Bowersock Skinner, 96, widow of George Skinner died at her home at Lower Newport Monday morning. She was born July 13, 1861 in Ludlow Twp., Washington County, daughter of the late Henry and Sarah Wood Bowersock. On Jan 30, 1879, she was married to George W. Skinner. He died October 4, 1918. Three sons and three daughters survive, John Henry Skinner and Edward Skinner of Lower Newport; Frank Skinner of New Philadelphia; Mrs. Anna Hudkins of Marietta; Mrs. Lana Cornell of Jefferson; Mrs. Ethel Richardson of Barberton. Four daughters preceded her in death. There are 20 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren surviving. She was the last surviving member of a family of six brothers and sisters. Mrs. Skinner was a member of the Yankeeburg First United Baptist Church. Funeral services will be Thursday at 1pm at the Doudna & McClure Funeral Home with burial in the Barker Cemetery. Skinner, Pearl D: Pearl D. Skinner, 83, National Road Bethesda, died Wednesday, December 18, 1996, at her home. She was born February 13, 1913, in Morristown, a daughter of the late John Thomas Filmore Davis and Effie Lee Davis. She was a retired employee of the Ohio Dept of Transportation at Morristown, a member of Morristown Christian Church and Evangelical Friends Church in East Richland. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Lela Bunting and Mary Kocher. Surviving are two daughters, Rebecca Linkes of Richmond, KY and Linda Dunlap of Bethesda; three children. Private services were held Saturday at the convenience of the family at Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville, with the Rev. Robert Mack officiating. Burial followed in Union Cemetery, Morristown. He was born April 14, 1913 in New Philadelphia, a son of the late Frank Skinner and Fannie Close Skinner. The owner and operator of Philip L. Skinner Construction Co., he was a member of the Episcopal Church of New Philadelphia, Loyal Order of Moose of Lafferty, American Legion Post 168 of Barnesville, Elks Lodge #1699 of Barnesville, Train Collectors Assn. of Strasburg, PA., and a veteran of the U. S. Army, World War II. Surviving are his wife, Pearl Davis Skinner; two daughters, Mrs. David (Linda) Dunlap of Bethesda and Mrs. Jerry (Rebecca) Linkes of St. Louis, MO.; two grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Nelson of Akron and Margaret Cartwright of Jackson Mich.; two brothers, Joseph and Donald Skinner, both of Belpre Ohio. Friends may call at the Kelly-Kemp Funeral Home, Morristown, Monday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Jack Visser officiating. The body was taken from Doudna and McClure's to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bessie Tice at Milltown, on Thursday. Mrs. Skinner was born May 27, 1875 at Fay and was a daughter of the late Henry and Lydia Dickerson Martin. She was a member of the Bear Run United Brethren Church. Survivors are her husband, two sons and one daughter; Herbert Skinner of Marietta, Elmer Skinner of Newport and Mrs. Bessie Tice of Milltown. There are 21 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Skinner, Shirley Jane: Mrs. Shirley J Skinner, 29, wife of Joseph Skinner Jr., and resident of Belmont for nine years, died Wednesday night October 20th at 11 at the Ohio Valley General Hospital in Wheeling, after a brief illness. She was born June 21, 1936, at Portsmouth Ohio. Mrs. Skinner was a member of the Morristown Christian Church, Friendship Circle Sunday School Class of that Church, Belmont Garden Club and the Canasta Club. Surviving in addition to her husband are five Children, Tiffaney Ann, David Joe, Cheryl Jane, Lisa Jean and Tina Marie, all of the home; her parents, Mrs. Ada Smith Pulaski, VA and Edwin C. Smith of AltaVista, VA; her paternal grandfather Harry E. Smith of Columbus; aunts and uncles. Friends were received at the Kelly-Kemp Funeral Home in Bethesda where final rites were held Saturday afternoon, October 23rd at 1 o'clock. Interment was made in Belmont Cemetery.
