McBride, Everett E. : Everett E. McBride, 54, Los Angeles, CA., died Monday. Born March 5, 1891 in Madison Twp., he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. McBride and attended school in Cambridge and also at Muskingum college. He went west about 30 years ago and since has lived in Washington and California. Besides his two sisters he is survived by his widow two sons and a daughter, all of Los Angeles and a brother Roy McBride, Dallas, TX. Jeffersonian Cambridge, 14 Aug 1945 pg.5
McBurney, George : George McBurney, well known farmer of this community, passed away Wednesday morning at 5:30 at his home on the Barnesville-Olivett Rd. His death was due to a complication of diseases and he had been seriously ill for two weeks. Mr. McBurney has been in failing health for more than a year. Last March he went to the hospital for an operation, and submitted to a second operation in April. George McBurney was the son of Mary and Ebenezer McBurney and was born at Washington PA., January 17, 1860. Upon his marriage in 1888 to Amanda Mary Patterson of West Alexander he moved to Barnesville, living for a while on West Main Street, and a year later locating on the farm where he spent the remainder of his life. Mr. McBurney was a member of the United Presbyterian Church at Washington PA., and never transferred his membership to a local congregation. He was a member of Belmont Grange and very active in it. This organization will especially miss him and his contributions of song. The survivors beside the widow are Mrs. Ernest Bailey of Speidel, Mrs. M. W. Henry of Barnesville and Susanna Deafinbaugh of the home, the daughters and three sons, David of the home, Wales of Barnesville and Robert of Cleveland. There are also 21 grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Katherine Halterman of Pittsburgh, and three brothers, John, and James both of Washington PA., and Alexander of Kennonsburg, PA. The funeral services will be held from the home Friday at one o'clock, conducted by Rev. W. C. Patterson of Cadiz. Burial will be made in Barnesville Southern Cemetery.
McClelland, William E. : William E. McClelland, who attained the the age of 90 last January died at Bethesda Hospital at 5:30 p.m. Death was due to infirmities of age. He had been in the hospital 10 days and prior to that time made his home with his son, George McClelland at North Fifth Street. He was a member of the Central Trinity Methodist Church and had been a resident of Zanesville for more than 50 years. Surviving the deceased are four sons, George M. of this city; Alfred, of Crooksville; Floyd of Stovertown Rd. and Leo of the Adamsville Rd.; one daughter, Mrs. Nora Pfunder of Cleveland a half sister, Mrs. Etta Luster of Crooksville and two half brothers, Elmer Cope of Crooksville and Leo Cope of Zanesville. McCombs, Charles Eddy: Charles Eddy McCombs, 27, of Belmont, died Monday in the Good Samaritan Hospital, Zanesville. He was born April 22, 1952 at Steubenville. He was a truck driver, a Protestant by faith and a veteran of the U. S. Army. Surviving are his parents, Melba McCombs of Belmont, and Charles McCombs of Jewett; one daughter, Alicia Ann of Barnesville; a brother, Jerry of Belmont; three sisters, Joyce McCombs of Barnesville, and Jackie and Myrna, both at home. McConaughy, Dorothy W. : Dorothy W. McConaughy, 88, of Barnesville, died Sunday May 12, 2002 at her home. She was born Feb 16, 1914, in Tuscarawas County, daughter of the lat Walter Scott and Myrtle Iona Stephan Keiser. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl McConaughy; and infant son; three brothers and four sisters. She leaves two sons, Walter McConaughy of New Brighton, PA., and Ralph McConaughy of Jackson, TN.; three daughters, Luella Kidd, Mrs. Hubert (Shirley) Chappell and Mrs. Charles (Priscilla) Warrick, all of Barnesville; tow sisters, Mildred Grandi of Jerusalem and Geraldine Miller of Barnesville; several grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren. McCormick, Cora Ann: Cora Ann McCormick, 83, resident of Bethesda, passed away Friday, March 29, 1973 at her home. She was born December 28, 1892, a daughter of Grant and Hattie Lucas Shepherd. She was retired operator of a nursing home and a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church, Bethesda OES and past president of Bethesda Legion Auxiliary. Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. G.O. (Virginia) McClelland of Reading, Ohio; Mrs. H. D. (Jessie) Moore of Cleveland; Mrs. G. L. (Ruth) Spinelli of Indiana, PA; Mrs. E. F. ( Martha) Williams of Bridgeport, Michigan; Mrs. D. A. (Betty) Masters of Belmont; Mrs. Don (Nancy) Anderson of Bethesda; two sons, Mansel and John, both of Bethesda; one sister, Mrs. Martha Mueller of Bethesda; two brothers, Don and Lowell Shepherd, both of Bethesda; 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Friends were received at the Kelly-Kemp Funeral Home in Bethesda. Services were held Monday, April 1st at 1:30p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Fred Bell officiating. McCulloch, A. R. : Funeral services for Atty. A. R. McCulloch, dean of the Guernsey County Bar Association and chairman of the Democratic executive committee in Guernsey County for nearly half century, were conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church by the pastor, Rev. Lester S. Evans. Burial was made in Northwood Cemetery. Atty. McCulloch died early Thursday at Swan Hospital as the result of a fractured right hip sustained in a fall last Sunday. The body was viewed by many friends at the McMillen Funeral Home and at the church where it was taken two hours prior to the services Saturday. Nephews of the deceased, Ray and Lloyd McCulloch, Allan Knowles, Cleveland and Lehr Knowles, New York City, served as pall bearers. Jeffersonian, 21 Feb 1942
McCune, James : James McCune,76, well known farmer of the Belle Valley community and life long resident of Noble County, died Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Memorial Hospital , Marietta. He had been admitted the hospital early Tuesday morning suffering with intestinal obstructions. He was a member of the Hoskinsville Methodist Church. His wife, Mrs. Ruth Etta Stewart McCune, died several years ago. The surviving children are Mrs. Clifford Marquis, Mrs. John Morrison and Mrs. Vera Jennings, all of Sharon community and Forrest McCune, of Caldwell. Carl McCune, of Caldwell, died several years ago. The surviving brother and sister are Albert McCune and Miss Florence McCune, near Belle Valley. The body was removed from the B. B. Wheeler Funeral Home Wednesday evening to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest McCune. Last rites will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Hoskinsville Methodist Church. Rev. David a. McElfresh, Bertha : Funeral rites for Mrs. Bertha McElfresh, 65, of Gray Street, who passed away Sunday night at Good Samaritan Hospital will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the late residence. Rev. Harvey E. Holt will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. The deceased was the widow of Samuel McElfresh. She spent her entire life in Zanesville. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Dawes Beebe of the home; Mrs. Emory Barron of Forest Ave. and Mrs. Tyrus Dennis of Wilson Ave.; two sons, Harry McElfresh of Owens Street and Lewis McElfresh of Pine Street; four half sisters two half brothers, 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. McElfresh, Kenneth Dale : Funeral services for Kenneth Dale McElfresh, four-months-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul McElfresh of Zanesville who died Friday in the Bethesda Hospital that city, were held at the home of the parents Saturday forenoon. Following the services the body was brought to the Hoskinsville Cemetery for burial. The Parents, three sisters and a brother at the home survive. McElroy, Charles Thomas : Charles Thomas McElroy, 31, of South Zanesville, died in Good Samaritan Hospital Wednesday afternoon following a short illness. He had been removed to the hospital Tuesday. The deceased was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church. Surviving are the father, Charles T. McElroy Sr., one brother, Francis McElroy, and a sister, Mary Ann McElroy and several uncles and aunts. McEndree, Ray E.: Ray E. McEndree, 71, Morristown, died Sunday in Barnesville Hospital. He was born Sept 6, 1915 at Morristown, son of the late Jessie and Etta Howell McEndree. He was a retired employee of Consolidated Coal Co. and a Protestant, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Barnesville VFW. He was preceded in death by two brothers; two sisters. Surviving are his wife, Edna Gilmore McEndree; four sons, Alfred J. Bethesda, Ray of Jackson, KY., and Ernest and Ernie, both of Morristown; a brother, Ralph of Baltimore, MD.; two sisters, Alice Mae McBride of Barnesville and Winifred Bethel of Piedmont; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. McGhee, Kenneth : Kenneth "Jiggs" McGhee,75, of Shady Lane, Barnesville, died Friday in Barnesville Hospital. He was born November 14,1913 in Barnesville, the son of the late Frank and Bertha Robb Starr. He was the owner-operator of McGhee's Nursery, a former Owner-operator of the Flower Gardens Flower Shop and a member of Assumptions Catholic Church, Barnesville. He was past president of Knights of Columbus and a charter member of Seneca sportsmen's Club. He was preceded in death by an infant son. Surviving are his wife, Nomi Brown McGhee; three daughter, Norma J. Lucas and Patricia L. Swallie, both of Barnesville and Theresa R. Leach of Quaker City; a half-brother of Milhoad, Frank Starr of Milan, Mich; a half-sister Dorothy Starr of Milan; six grandchildren; two step-grandsons; 11 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Campbell-Plumly Funeral Home, Barnesville today , 4 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday in Assumption Catholic Church with Rev. McGilton, Mildred M.: Mildred M. McGilton, 87, Stewartsville, died Thursday at home. She was born in Belmont County, March 24, 1905, daughter of the late Tom and Louise Schockey Masters. She was a retired housemother of the former Belmont County Children's Home, Barnesville, a member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church, Key Bellaire Eagles Auxiliary and Glencoe American Legion Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband Thurman McGilton and two brothers, Russell and Raymond Masters. Surviving are two sons, Francis Thurman McGilton of Belmont and Vern McGilton of Stewartsville; a brother, Paul Masters of Medina; two sisters, Rhea Helms of Stewartsville and Margaret Thornton of Bellaire; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Toothman Funeral Home Jacobsburg, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Ray Ake officiating. McGlashan, Charles H. : Charles H. McGlashan, 75, of Columbus, who was born and reared in Sharon, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Calvin McGlashan of Caldwell, died suddenly last Saturday evening at his summer home, one mile west of Duncan Falls, south of Zanesville, following a heart attack. His brother, Cyrus is employed in The Leader Office. A retired salesman for the Smith Brothers Hardware Company of Columbus, Mr. McGlashan was a member of the Columbus I. O. O. F. Lodge in Columbus and the Modern Woodmen of America. Surviving are his widow, Laura, and one daughter, Miss Zora of the home, one brother, Cyrus of Caldwell, two sisters, Mrs. Ella Tipton of Caldwell and Mrs. Cora Shadwell of Huntington, WV. Funeral services were held at the home in Columbus Tuesday afternoon and interment was made in a Columbus Cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus McGlashan and Mr. and Mrs. Paul McGlashan, of Caldwell wee in attendance at the services. McGurk, Mrs. H. L. : The death of Nellie, 63, wife of Harry L. McGurk of Terre Haute, Ind., occurred last Thursday morning following a long illness. She was the daughter of Thomas Marquis and Ada Rogers of Covington, Ind., and in addition to her husband is survived by three sons Capt. Harry L. Jr., of Ft. Leonard Wood, Ma., Sgt. Tom A. Bombardier now in Italy and Samuel of the U. S. Navy, one daughter Mrs. Edward Hodge of Terre Haute and four grandchildren. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Funeral services and burial took place Saturday afternoon at Terre Haute. Mrs. McGurk was a sister-in-law of J. McHenry, Helen M.: Helen M. McHenry, 82, Orchard Lane, St. Clairsville, formerly of Bridgeport, died Wednesday in Wheeling Hospital. She was born March 10, 1911 in Bellaire, daughter of the late Carl and Nellie Brudvich Lesnick. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church at St. Clairsville. She was preceded in death by her husband, William McHenry. Surviving are a son, Donald McHenry of Thornville; four granddaughter. Services were held at the convenience of the family Thursday with the Rev. James Bryant officiating. Burial followed in St. Anthony Cemetery, Blaine. McKee, Mrs. Allie : Mrs. Alcinda McKee, 92, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mollie Patten, on Fairground Street, Saturday evening at 5 o'clock, following an illness due to advanced years. She was the widow of the late Isaac E. McKee, Civil War Veteran and the daughter of John and Elizabeth Kirk. Mrs. McKee was a life-long resident of Noble County, the oldest resident of Noble County, the oldest Charter member of the Amazon Chapter No. 30, O. E. S. and past worthy matron of the chapter. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mollie Patten and Mrs. Flora Cooke of the home and one son, Robert McKee of Canton. One grandson, Donald McKee of Canton, also survives. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home with Rev. Harry M. Wilson pastor of the First Church of Christ officiating. Members of the local order of Eastern Star held their ritualistic services at the home. Burial was made in Olive Cemetery with the Murphy Funeral Home in charge. The Journal, 21 May 1942
McKee, Charles Vinson : Charles Vinson McKee, 59, of Wilson St., Sciotoville, died Monday at Veterans Hospital at Huntington WV. A native of Fort Gay, WV., he was a World War II veteran, a retired postal employee and a member of Western Sun Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, El Hasa Shrine, Eastern Star at Wheelersburg, Portsmouth Whit Shrine, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. Preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Ruth Warner McKee, in 1973, he is survived by his second wife, Mrs. Tana Wheeler McKee; tow sons, Shannon T., of East Thomas Ave., and Shevin C., Peru, IN.; four daughters, Mrs. Sharon Carroll of Urbana, Mrs. Sherrill Turner of Wheelersburg, Mrs. Shauna Hamilton of St. Paris and Mrs. Sheila Tabor of Columbus; tow stepsons, Rodney and Carl Potts, both at home; six step daughters, Mrs. Tima Abrigo of Norfolk VA., Mrs. Rhonda Harper of Virginia Beach VA., and Belinda, Kathy, Paula and Janet Potts all at the home; his mother, Mrs. Frances Florence Williams McKee; a brother, Walter of Virginia Beach VA; two sisters, Mrs. Wanda Copley of Wheelersburg and Mrs. Jerry Ramey, of East Thomas Ave. and 10 grandchildren. Services are planned at 2 p.m. Thursday at Don Wolfe Funeral Home in Sciotoville, with Rev. Robert D. Rider officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by James Dickey Post American Legion at Memorial Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 9 tonight, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until time of services Thursday. Masonic services are planned at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
McKee, William : Members of the deacons, and Men's Bible class made up the pallbearers and honorary pallbearers, who carried the profusion of beautiful floral offerings at last rites for William McKee, better known to his hosts of friends as "Billy," Sunday afternoon at the First Presbyterian Church. They were Paul McGlashan , Glenn Iams, J. W. Robinson, Forrest Sanford, Edgar Love, Lesley Love, J. J. Startzman, Clarence Wiley, J. K. Walkenshaw, George McKee, Clayton McKee, Owen Harmon and A. W. King. Tev. Charles E. Nash conducted the services and two selections "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder" and "Abide With Me," were sung by Mrs. Helen Harmon, Mrs. Miriam Craig, miss Cynthia Morris and Paul mcGlashan, with Mrs. J. K. Walkenshaw at the piano. The services were largely attended and the church was filled to capacity. Interment was made in Olive Cemetery, with the Murphy Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. McLeod, Mrs. Ida Smith : Friends here have been notified of the death of Mrs. Ida Smith-McLeod, 73, wife of John McLeod, which occurred at the family home in Columbus, Tuesday. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Leonard and was born in the Sharon community, west of Caldwell. She and her first husband, John Smith, resided in Caldwell a number of years. Later with her husband and son Attorney Harry Smith, she located in Columbus. Mrs. Smith was later married to Mr. McLeod, who survives with one daughter of the first marriage, Mrs. Belva Smith Rucker, wife of Noble Rucker, Columbus; three grandchildren, Marjorie Smith Gibeau, Cumberland; Ralph Smith and Wilson Rucker, Sr., Columbus; one great-grandson, Wilson Rucker, Jr. and one brother, Leonard, who resides we of Caldwell. McMillen, Helen: Helen McMillen, 76, 210 Main St., Tiltonsville, died Tuesday in Pittsburgh, PA. She was born Sep 8, 1913 in Martins Ferry, a daughter of the late Robert and Bertha Cochran Hicks. She was a member of the Tiltonsville United Methodist Church and Order of Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Monroe McMillen. Surviving are three daughters and two sons, Mrs. Joseph (Evelyn0 McConkey of Burlington, NJ., Mrs. Robert (Patricia) Glasgow of Mingo Junction, Mrs. James (Marcia Kay) Zinni of Canfield, Jerry McMillen of Tiltonsville and Ronnie McMillen of New Hope, PA.; four brothers and a sister, Catherine Holliday of Las Vegas, NV., Willard and Ray Hicks of Mt. McNeal, Mrs. L. A. : Funeral services for Mrs. L. A. McNeal of Maple Ave., who died Saturday at her home, will be conducted at the residence Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. F. H. McReight, DeArmond : Woodsfield OH-Dearmond McReight, 90, life resident of Monroe County, passed away Monday evening at 5:00 at the home of his sister, Mrs. Agnes Dougherty, High Street. Although he had been in failing health for the past two years his death was unexpected. He was stricken Thursday of the past week. The body was taken to the Bauer and Turner Funeral Home, where it will remain until after the services, when it will be taken to Antioch for burial. Bereaved by his death in addition to his sister, Cora, who resides in the west, also several nieces and nephews. His brother, John McReight preceded him in death a few months ago. Mr. McReight had spent practically his entire life in the Antioch community with the exception of the past few years that he has lived with his sisters in Woodsfield. A well-known county farmer. During the short time that he has resided here he made many friends. Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending the arrival of relatives. The Times Recorder, 28 Sep 1944
