Scharf, Mrs. Edward P. : It is sad to have to record the death of this admirable young woman, the wife of Rev. Edward P. Scharf, our pastor at North Baltimore, Ohio. She died April 8, at North Baltimore, at the age of 33 years 10 months and 21 days. She was born in Tuscarawas County in what is known as the Stone Creek valley, where her body was also buried in the cemetery by the side of the country church where she was catechized and confirmed and worked so faithfully. Here she took her confirmation vows on April 10, 1898. She was a student at Wooster University for some years, where she not only proved herself a faithful and talented collegian, but also very active in local church work. Afterward she became and art teacher at Wittenberg College, where she was known by her maiden name, Edith Ellwood and where she became endeared to all who knew her. Besides her professional work, she was active in the YWCA work of the college, the life of the Fourth Lutheran church, and a consecrated worker at one of the missions of the city of Springfield. A gloom has spread over our entire college and church community on account of her unexpected death. Her husband, who is a graduate of the college and seminary, has the deepest and sincerest sympathy of all. It was a little less than a year ago, June 18, 1913, that Mr. Scharf and Miss Ellwood stood at the altar of Emanuel's Church, New Philadelphia, Ohio, and were united in marriage by the pastor, Rev. W. F. Rangeler. She made and excellent pastor's wife, and was most consecrated to the church of which her husband is the pastor. The people of the church are all but inconsolable. Yet a beautiful faith sustains them. She is survived by her mother, four sisters, five brothers and a little son who was but one day old when his mother's life went out. This little one she consecrated to the gospel ministry, with the prayer that, God willing, he might become a foreign missionary to the news of salvation.
