Macenko, Steve: Steve Macenko, 47, Belle Valley, Ohio, brother of John Macenko of Yorkville, died Sunday morning in Belle Valley. He was born Sept 1, 1924, at Belle Valley, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Macenko. He was a member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church of Belle Valley. Surviving also are five other brothers, Joseph of Cumberland, Ohio, Andy and Paul both of Belle Valley, Mike of Cleveland, and George of Caldwell; one sister, Mrs. Gilbert Briggs of Lewisville, Ohio. Friends are being received at the McVey Funeral Home, Caldwell, Ohio. Services will be held Tuesday at 10a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, with burial in the Church cemetery. Madden, Mrs. Elizabeth Stephard : Mrs. Elizabeth Stephard Madden, 82, will known resident of Rt. 1, Madden Station, passed away Sunday afternoon at 3:40 o'clock at her home following four years of illness. The widow of Walter S. Madden she was a native of Wellsville. She was a member of the Wellsville Presbyterian Church but had resided in the place where she died for the past 43 years. The deceased is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Vera Madden Stewart of the home two sons, William E. Beresford of Atlanta, GA., and Franklin S. Beresford of Miami, FL., a stepdaughter, Mrs. Mabel Reed of Thornville and a step-son, Charles E. Madden of Toledo. Magers, Vera Mary : Vera Mary Perkins, Polinski Magers, 78, of 35 Bishop St. Wheeling, formerly of High St. Benwood, died Thursday Dec 9, 1993, in Wheeling Hospital. She was a daughter of the late Harly and Eva Jane Perkins. She was a Protestant. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Polinski; her second husband, Carl Magers; three brothers; a grandchild. Surviving are three sons. John "Fred" Polinski of Belmont, James Polinski of Louisiana and David Polinski of Glen Dale, WV.; a daughter, Mrs. Louis (Deborah) Walker of Wheeling; a sister, Mrs. Charles (Jean) Croop of Wheeling; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Friends will be received today noon to 3 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 214 Marshall St., McMechen, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday. Mahaney, Mrs. Glen : Funeral services for Mrs. Glen Mahaney, 21, who died Monday morning at the home of her parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Arthur Krouskoupf High St., following eight months illness, will be conducted Thursday morning at 10 o'clock at St. Thomas Catholic Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Mahaney was a member of St. Thomas Church and was well known in this city. Surviving besides her husband and parents are four sisters, Christina, Olive, and Mrs. Louise Garbin of the home and Mrs. Matilda Burns of this city; three brothers Fred, Herman, and Eugene Krouskoupf, all of the home, and several nephews, nieces and cousins. Maines, Georgianna : Georgiana Maines, 89, of Zanesville, formerly of McLuney, died Monday, Jan 6, 2003 at Genesis Bethesda Hospital, after a sudden illness. Born Aug 22, 1913, in Perry County, she retired in 1978 from Armco Steel, where she had worked as their plant nurse for 25 years. She had also worked as a nurse for Dr. Cruz. She was a graduate of Good Samaritan Nursing Program and a member of BPW of Zanesville, Pioneer Historical Society and Blue Triangle, both of Zanesville. Surviving are two foster sons and their families, Jack Brown, his wife Beth and their children Kristen and Adam, James Brown and his daughter Jamie; four cousins, Bernice Butler of Fl., Evelyn Denny of New Lexington, Betty Gordon of Caldwell and Dr. Bobby Young of Zanesville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Edith Lanning Maines. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Goebel Funeral Home, Crooksville. Mallonee, Berndina: Berndina Mallonnee, 80, Ocala, FL., formerly of Bethesda and Martins Ferry, died Sunday evening at Ocala Geraiatric Center. She was born Jan 13, 1909 at Bethesda, daughter of the late Charles and Clara Bell Mallonee. She taught school several years in the Martins Ferry School District and was a member of the Martins Ferry Baptist Church. Surviving are a brother, Thomas Mallonee of Ocala; several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Kelly-Kemp Funeral Home, Bethesda, 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, where services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John Jackson officiating. Malvin, Ronald Lee : Last rites for Ronald Lee Malvin, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Malvin of Cumberland who died Tuesday at Bethesda Hospital will be held at 10:30 Thursday morning at the Tom Funeral Home at Cumberland, with the Rev. Manley, Mrs. Elizabeth : Funeral rites for Mrs. Elizabeth Gant Manley, 90, colored who died at noon Sunday at the home of her daughter, Miss Margaret Manley of near Licking View, will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at the State Street Wesleyan Methodist Church. Rev. A. D. Jackson will officiate and burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. The body was removed to the home Monday evening from the Mader-Peoples Funeral Home. Times Recorder, 22 Oct 1940
Mann, Emma: Emma M. Mann, 78, a resident of Belmont, died Thursday at Alliance City Hospital. She was born Jan 29, 1906 in Wheeling, a daughter to the late Charles and Lula Remley Thomas. She was a retired employee of the Belmont County Home, St. Clairsville and a member of the Belmont Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Mann in 1980, and three sons, Francis, Roger and Wilford. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Audrey Nicholson of Cambridge; two sons Raymond of Minerva and Edward Thomas of Pittsburgh, PA., 25 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Kelly-Kemp Funeral Home, Bethesda, Saturday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where services will be held Sunday at 1:30. Burial will be in Belmont Cemetery.
Maring, Mrs. Edith: Mrs. Edith Maring aged about seventy years, died October 10. For years Somerton had been her home and we had learned to love the kind old lady, whose life was one of sweetness and resignation to whatever came. Her husband died a number of years ago and since then her children had been her comfort and support and when she died four sons and three daughters wept around her bier. For nearly two years she had been a helpless invalid and in all that time nothing was left undone which loving hands could do to soothe her suffering. Barnesville Enterprise, 1881
Marsh, Thomas M. : Thomas Milton Marsh, 85, honored and highly respected citizen, son of Abraham and Mary Bichard Marsh, pioneer citizens of Cambridge died at the old family homestead, 729 Gomber Ave., on Friday evening, 6:15 o'clock. He had been ill for about a month suffering from complications incident to advanced years, and had lived an active and useful life until stricken, being youthful in appearance and bearing for one of his years. "Tommy", as he was known by his legion of friends was born May 17, 1856, one of a family of 11 children, six sons and five daughters, of whom the following survive: Charles Summer Marsh, Missoula, Mont., Mrs. Amanda Morrow, East Chicago, IN., Mrs. Margaret Sarchet, Detroit, MI. Deceased brothers and sisters are Dillon Marsh, former Guernsey County mining engineer, Mary L. Grant, Sarah E. Hyde, Bertha J. and Jonathan. Mrs. Alice Wallace Marsh, wife of the deceased, died Sep 3 1926, and six children are of the immediate family- Mrs. Frank Stottlemire of the home, Charles S. Marsh of New Philadelphia, engineer of the State Highway Department and former Guernsey county engineer, Mrs. John Young., Mrs. Edwin H. Cale, Clark St., Frank D. Marsh, deceased and Mrs. Roy Workman. "Tommy" had lived an energetic and constructive life. For many years he conducted a barber shop in the Davis block, East Eight St. and Wheeling Ave., where customers and visitors were numerous. He was treasurer of the Township Board of Trustees for a number of years. His garden was his hobby he loved flowers he planted them for pass time, cultivated them with the joy and gathered them for his friends. In his younger days he had been a cigar maker for the old T. C. Marsh firm and replaced the carbons in the first electric Street lights o his old home town. In his young manhood he was also a member of the old Cambridge Volunteer Fire Department. When 13 years of age he united with the Old Methodist Protestant Church (now the Ninth St. Methodist Church), then located on S. Seventh St., under the pastorate of Rev. S. A. Fisher, in the first small brick church erected there. Thus he had a continuous and active church membership of over 72 years which is outstanding membership record of the congregation in which he was always a regular attendant. He was one of the original organizers of the Men's Class of his church. Clean of Character and speech his honor and integrity was beyond question. He had served many years on the Official Board of the old church and had lived a consistent Christian life. He was a prominent member in Cambridge odd Fellowship, being a member of Subordinate Lodge No. 301, Encampment No. 150, Patriarchs Militant No. 96, Rebekah Lodge No. 576. In years of membership he was Cambridge's oldest resident Odd Fellow and a few years ago, at a special session, Tommy and the venerable D. M. Hawthorne were each presented with fifty-year membership jewels. He loved his fraternal brethren and they loved him. Tommy gave many of his fellow citizens their first hair-cut or their first shave and with it all he gave them an outstanding example of a good and creditable life well lived. Another good citizen has passed on. The body was removed to the Stevens & McCracken Funeral Home and was returned to the residence Saturday afternoon. Funeral services will be conducted at the home Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. R. A. Pelt, of the Ninth Street Methodist Church and burial will be made in Northwood Cemetery. Odd Fellows and Rebekahs will assemble at the Temple Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock to go to the home and pay their respects to the departed. Jeffersonian, 21 Feb 1942
Martin, Mrs. Elsie : Mrs. Elsie Martin, 75, of Sycamore Valley, died Saturday Dec 6, 1975 at Marietta Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born June 29, 1900 and was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church. Her husband Charles Martin, died May 25, 1975. She is survived by one son, Charles Martin Jr. of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Mena Fliehman of Caldwell and Mrs. Clara Hazzig of Denver, CO. One Daughter, one sister and one brother are deceased. Services were held Tuesday at 1 p.m. from the Mallett Funeral Home in Stafford and burial made in the Lebanon Cemetery. Journal, 11 Dec 1975 pg. 2
Martin, Jennings Lee: Veteran local television sportscaster Jennings Lee Martin of Wheeling died Saturday in Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling, after a lengthy illness. He was 59. He was born on Dec 6, 1928 in Shinnston, WV., the son of Hugh M. Martin, now of Canton and the late M. Marie Patterson Martin. A resident of 600 Northwood Court he was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Wheeling and a veteran of the Korean War. Martin graduated from West Virginia University in 1951. After spending six years in radio broadcasting, Martin became associated with WTRF-TV in Wheeling three decades ago. Most recently he was sports director for the station. Martin was named West Virginia Citizen of the Year in 1977 and he was a member of the Wheeling Hall of Fame Board of Directors. Surviving in addition to his father, are his wife, carol Menkemeller Martin; two sons, Douglas H. and Bradford L.; and one sister, Ruth A. Reeder of Canton. Friends received 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Kepner Funeral Home, National Road at Bethany Pike, Wheeling. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Times Leader
Martinko, John L.: John L. Martinko, Sr., 67 of Powell, Ohio and formerly of Belmont County, passes away Saturday morning, March 12, 1983 at Riverside Hospital, Columbus. Born Oct 15, 1915 at Neffs, he was the son of the late John and Magdalena Svanda Martinko. He was a retired coal miner of Willow Grove Mine. Surviving are two sons, William of Wilmington, Delaware, and John A. of Morristown; two grandchildren. Services were held from the Kelly0Kemp Funeral Home, Bethesda, on Tuesday, with Elder Harold Rose officiating. Burial was made in Belmont Cemetery. Times Leader
Marzluf, William F. : William F. Marzluf, 81, died Monday in Granite City, Ill, a Real Estate Broker and Builder. Survived by wife Margaret; sons, Robert, Columbus Charles of Granite City; daughter, Mrs. Lucille Howard, Mt. Holly, NJ.; sister, Mrs. Anna Ware, Columbus., (Preceded in death by former wife, Hedwig Frohnhoefer Marzluf.) Friends may call at the O'Shaughnessy Funeral Home 405 E. Mason, John : John Mason, 49, formerly of Cambridge, died in a Columbus Hospital at noon Wednesday. Mr. Mason was the son of Charles and Prudence Mason. He was a coal Miner around Cambridge for many years and a devout member of the Byesville Methodist Church. He is survived by one daughter, three sons are deceased. The following brothers and sisters survive; Mrs. Mabel Gregg of Cambridge; Mrs. Jennie Walker of Cambridge and Charles of Cambridge; James of Byesville; Mrs. Anna Furnace of Dayton. Massie, John H. : Comrade John Harvey Massie, 93, only Confederate Veteran residing in Southeastern Ohio, died Wednesday night at the home of his son, Ures Massie, Kannonsburg, following and illness incident to an advanced age. His death removes another veteran from Noble County and only one survives, who served on either side in the civil strife, Comrade Jacob McBride, near Caldwell. Comrade Massie had resided in Noble County for the past four years. On Aug 24, 1847, John H. Massie was born near Uniontown, WV., a son of John H. and Bessie Ferren Massie. At the age of 16 years he joined the Confederate Army and served with distinction for 18 months. He signed up with the Snider Bushwhackers from Green Briar County and served throughout the war under his command. Ten years ago. Comrade Massie was honored by the Akron United Daughters of the Confederacy when they presented him with a beautiful medal. The Noble County Confederate was twice married and both wives preceded him in death. Surviving are four children, Ures Massie of Wayne township, Ira Gilbert Massie of Akron, Leo Massie of Akron and Elmer Massie of East Liverpool. Six grandchildren also survive. The body was removed to the Eberle Funeral Home in Quaker City and prepared for burial. Services were held Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Kennonsburg Methodist Church and burial made in the cemetery adjoining this church. Ures Massie is clerk of Wayne township. Journal, 12 Dec 1940
Masters, Betty Z.: Betty Z. Masters, 67, Bethesda Belmont Rd., Bethesda, died Monday at home. She was born July 4, 1925 at Bethesda, daughter of the late Alva and Cora Shepherd McCormick. She was a member of Chestnut Level Christian Church, Hazen Chapter Order of Eastern Star and a 4-H Leader for several years. She was preceded in death a son, Dean Allen; a daughter, Janice; a brother; three sisters. Surviving are her husband, Donald; three daughters, Darlene Edwards, and B. J. Ballog, both of Bethesda, and Patricia Freeman of Garland, TX; a son, Donald of Manassas, VA; two sisters, Martha Williams of Denton, TX. and Ruth Spinelli of Indiana, PA.; a brother, John McCormick of Bethesda; seven grandchildren. Friends will be received Tuesday 7 to 9 p.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Kelly-Kemp Funeral Home, Bethesda, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday with Bob Fulton officiating. Burial follows in Chestnut Level Cemetery. Hazen Chapter O.E.S. services will be Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., Memorial contributions may be made to the Chestnut Level Christian Church. Mattingly, Clara Jane : Clara Jane Mattingly, five year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Earnest Mattingly, died Monday morning at Good Samaritan Hospital. Surviving in addition to the parents are a sister, Marilyn and the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Mauger, Lawrence S. : Lawrence S. Mauger, 74, of 1789 Lancaster Ave., Reynoldsburg, passed away Tuesday at home. Retired employee Omar Bakeries and OSU. Mawhorter, Clifford F. : Clifford F. Mawhorter, 69, of Adams Lane, died at 4:00 Sunday morning at his home following five weeks illness. He was a farmer and had lived his entire life in Zanesville and vicinity. He was the son of the late William and Sarah Mawhorter and was a member of the Euclid Avenue Methodist Church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Mawhorter of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Mark Moore of Yale Ave; a brother, Fred Mawhorter of Homewood Ave.; a sister, Mrs. Lena Jones, Maple Ave.; one granddaughter, Betty Lou Moore and several nieces and nephews. The body was removed to the Seat Funeral Home, Maple Ave., where funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00, with the Rev. C. R. Mayhugh, Clarence: Clarence Edgar Mayhugh, 79, Bethesda, died Friday morning in Monroe Health Care Center, Woodsfield. A retired farmer, her was a member of the Belmont Ridge Christian Church, Beallsville. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Church Mayhugh; three sons, Clarence Jr. of Canal Winchester and Roger and James, both of Bethesda; two daughters, Ramona Mayhugh of the home and Joan Schrader of Bethesda; a sister, Minnie VanDyne of Powhatan Point; 13 grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren. Mayle, Mrs. A. Maude : Funeral services for Mrs. A. Maude Mayle, 71, colored, of rear of Maple Ave, who died Sunday evening at her home following a year's illness will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at St. Paul A. M. E. Church. Rev. A. H. Tate assisted by Rev. G. W. Morse will officiate and burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. The body will remain at the Baker Funeral Home until time for removal to the church. Maynard, Merlyn : Merlyn Maynard, 40, of Stockport whose wife was formerly Miss Mabel Calland, of this place, and Alvertus Bailey, also of Stockport, were killed in a sandbank accident last last Thursday. The men were attempting to free a power-driven shovel which was used in taking sand and gravel from the bank when the accident occurred. Maynard is survived in addition to his widow, by four children, Martha Mae, Gene, Jack and Robert, his mother tow brothers and one sister. Funeral services and interment took place Sunday afternoon at Stockport. Noble County Leader, 21 Nov 1940
