Eagon, Pfc. William S. : Pfc. William S. Eagon, No. 35031147 Medical department in the U. S. Army on the French War Front in co. 330 Infantry having been reported on Sep 09 as killed in action on July 25, 1944. William enlisted in the service March 26, 1940, received training at Camp Lee, VA., transferred to Camp Oglethorpe, GA., later to Camp Forrest In TN., thence to New York Oct 1, 1943 to be transported to Ireland, England, and France for service overseas. William the only son of W. G. and Florence Eagon. Born in Beaver Twp., Noble Co. OH, June 10, 1909, aged 35 Years, one month and 15 days, leaving his father, mother and one sister, Wilma Glee Watson to mourn their loss and to wonder why this terrible war and why their noble son and brother with other mother's sons are having to die for some criminals transgression on the other side of the sea. That William was loyal was shown in many ways which we could mention. First by enlisting. Second by insisting that he was going to fight and if need be die to keep American a safe and sacred place for his mother and sister and all of America's children in the future. True our heads are bowed in sadness but not without hope as we feel our son has fought a good fight, kept the faith and finished his course, dying as he lived, a member of the Mt. Zion Church, sending money to his church, also the chapel and requesting in his last letters for his folks to give freely to the Lord for in his heart he was confident that the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh home his own. Blessed be the name of the Lord. Our son is in his care. We the family wish to express our sincere thanks to all those who have extended their heartfelt sympathy in calling or writing in this our trying ordeal and sadness. The Times Recorder 27 Sep 1944
